Hello,
The SRWMD has deferred the Blue Springs Properties agenda item until April.  They are in the process of an evidentiary review and when that is complete they will present the matter to the Board of Directors.  One more delay in a chain of events, however it is OSFR position that they are being careful verses quick to pass this order.

Water bottlers warm to sales tax, oppose governor's plan

By Mary Ellen Klas, Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau

Lobbyists for the bottled water industry are offering an olive branch in the impending tax fight over their product: a sales tax.

They're agreeing to let lawmakers remove the exemption on bottled water and impose the state's 6-cents sales tax on every bottle of water sold. The hitch: The sales tax would be paid in lieu of the governor's plan to impose a 6-cents severance tax on every gallon of water used for bottled water.

River or reservoir? Plans for a marina on Rodman Reservoir reignites debate

Alan Youngblood/Star-Banner
Timothy Poole waits for fish to take the bait just below the Kirkpatrick Dam at the Rodman Reservoir recreation area February 20, 2009. Poole has been fishing the area for 30 years. The debate continues whether to remove the Kirkpatrick Dam and restore the Ocklawaha River to it's natural state.

It's one of the most ambitious undertakings to capitalize on a local man-made wonder - or, some would say, one of the most foolhardy.

Groveland stands alone against Niagara water permit in Lake County

TAVARES - County commissioners decided this week that Lake could not afford to continue its legal battle against Niagara Bottling.

Tuesday's decision — a 4-0 vote by commissioners to end the legal challenge — is a turning point in Central Florida's water wars. It could hasten the decision on whether to let the California-based water bottler tap water from an area already contemplating shortages in the future.

In July, a staff recommendation submitted to the
St. Johns River Water Management District's governing board recommended granting Niagara a five-year permit to take water from the Floridan Aquifer and sell it.

Save Our Aquifer (photos included)

Dear friends of the Floridan aquifer,

A great big thank you to everyone who attended the "Keep Sewage Out" demonstration at Rockledge City Hall this past Wednesday.  More than 50 residents of all ages turned out for the exciting event.  Demonstrations like this one, will continue and expand over the coming months.  Please enjoy a few of the terrific photos from the event.  Save Our Aquifer is working on adding these photos and more to the Save Our Aquifer website.

On March 4, 2009, more than 50 residents of all ages gathered to demonstrate their objections to the City of Rockledge's plan to annually inject 180 million gallons of partially treated sewage into the Underground Source of Drinking Water (USDW), also knows as the Floridan aquifer, via a controversial Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) well.  The demonstration was held at the local City Hall.

If the cycle testing permit is approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, our local aquifer will be contaminated forever with sewage water that contains birth control chemicals, prescription drugs, fire suppression chemicals, hormones, PCB's, heavy metals, carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and numerous other unregulated chemicals that cause human and animal impacts at even trace amounts. The Indian River Lagoon, an Ecological Resource of National Significance, is located within 2,000 feet of the injection site. The City of Rockledge has banned all potable wells within a 1-mile radius of the injection site at the Rockledge Sewage Treatment Facility at 1700 Jack Oates Boulevard, in preparation for the cycle testing permit to be issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as early as June, 2009.

The efforts of the local Rockledge community and surrounding communities will continue as they work towards keeping the Floridan aquifer sewage free.

To Take Action, please go to this link on our website and send an email to the local and state governing officials and permitting agencies FDEP and the SJRWMD.

Thanks for the call this morning and for all your help in getting the word out to other Florida residents.  The types of wells are growing in popularity and are very often done by the local governments very quietly so as not to create public interest and involvement.  They are called by FDEP "reclaimed water" ASR wells.  This will be the first one on the entire east coast to inject partially treated sewage into the Floridan aquifer aka the Underground Source of Drinking Water.

Sincerely,
Amy Mosher

Clean Water Restoration Act (CWRA)

Dear Merrillee,

Thank you for asking your members of Congress to serve as
original cosponsors of the Clean Water Restoration Act this
Congress. It all begins with efforts from people just like you!

***********************************
Please consider making a special tax-deductible gift today to
support our work:

https://secure.ga0.org/02/action_ThankYou_CWRA_02_23_09

***********************************

Currently, polluters are seizing on the Supreme Court rulings to
argue that the Clean Water Act only protects "navigable" waters
such as major rivers, thus leaving unguarded an abundance of
America's streams, lakes, rivers and wetlands. We can't allow
industrial polluters access to these vulnerable waterways.

The Clean Water Restoration Act, as introduced in the 110th
Congress, would protect all waters from these polluters. If
adopted in the 111th Congress it would restore clear protections
to water bodies that were covered before the Supreme Court
rulings.

But, before the Clean Water Restoration Act can start protecting
us, we have to do our part to get it introduced in Congress and
then passed into law.

Please take a moment and tell your friends, family members, and
colleagues how they can help:
http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/cwa_0209/forward

With your help, Earthjustice will continue to safeguard public
lands, national forests, parks, and wilderness areas; reduce air
and water pollution; prevent toxic contamination; preserve
endangered species and wildlife habitat; and defend the right of
all people to a healthy environment.

Sincerely,
Earthjustice
